A unique career path

Martin Ottersten: Balancing PhD studies & part-time work

Meet our colleague Martin Ottersten, Research & Innovation Development Engineer at Swegon. Martin has a Master of Science with an orientation in aeronautics and a Ph.D. in aeroacoustics and started his professional journey as a designer at Swegon in 2009. Two years later, he switched to group technical calculations and started performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. In 2017, he began his industrial Ph.D. studies at Chalmers University of Technology, while still working part-time at Swegon.

“After successfully defending my thesis in 2022, I earned my doctoral degree. Around the same time, I founded the Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC) R&D group to generate new ideas and provide assistance to other Swegon sites. Starting 2022, I spent 20% of my time as a visiting researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, with the ultimate goal of becoming an associate professor. Creating a good indoor environmental quality aligns with my values, and I am also passionate about reducing CO2 emissions in the world by improving the efficiency of our products. My life philosophy includes continuous personal development and challenging work, which I have experienced during my time at Swegon. The managers here have always encouraged personal growth. Positive and friendly colleagues also contribute to a productive workplace.”

The opportunities within Swegon are many and Martins journey is merely one example. Swegon encourage and support personal development and growth in whatever area of interest you may have. Martin's somewhat unique career path within Swegon has made him a very exciting blog writer.

Kickstart your career as a trainee

Clara-Beatha Björck: From Trainee to Corporate Development Analyst

Whether you are writing your thesis or have applied for a trainee opportunity with us, it is a great way to get into the world of Swegon and explore the many possibilities there are.

"During my master studies at School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, I got the opportunity to write our master thesis for Swegon. Afterwards, I was asked if I was interested in applying for a trainee position. I got a good feeling about Swegon during my thesis time, applied and got the job. After about a year as a trainee, working with sales development projects, I was asked if I would be interested in working with MI and M&A. Despite not having any prior experience within MI and M&A, I thought it sounded very interesting and I gladly accepted my new role in the Corporate Development Team. Being a trainee is a great way to start a career. You get the opportunity to learn a lot about the company and the industry, work with different people in different projects, and discover what you find interesting. One thing that I am grateful for and would like to encourage others to do as well, is to say yes when you are given the opportunity to help with tasks outside of your role."

Starting your career as a trainee at Swegon is a great opportunity to explore many areas of our business to find out exactly where and with what you want to work. Get in touch or meet us at your nearest career fair to learn more about the different opportunities we offer.

“Students and graduates are an important part of building our organisation and Swegon takes pride in the journey that our trainees have made within the company. We make sure they are taken care of, challenged in many different areas and given opportunities to excel and grow in their area of interest. Student and trainees are a great asset to the company.”
Andreas Örje Wellstam, CEO
