Wood You Believe It?

A discovery product concept

This wooden AHU concept is part of Swegon’s RE:3 initiative: Reduce, Reuse, Revitalise. It’s designed to inspire innovative thinking about alternative materials while paving the way for a more circular, low-carbon future.

By replacing traditional steel with cross-laminated timber, this concept air handling unit reduces embodied carbon by 40%. While not for sale, it challenges industry norms and sparks conversations about sustainable HVAC solutions.

Why This Matters

Redefining material choices for a Carbon-Conscious World

Embodied carbon is a growing concern in the building industry. With this concept, we demonstrate how bold material choices can make a significant impact. Many are now considering the more holistic view of energy, material choice and lifecycle with the increased awareness and profileration of TM65 and EPD. This prototype is more than an idea - it’s a call to action and a concept for sustainable innovation.
